World of the Raptors....

The last few weeks I have learned a lot about falconry, and the Red Tail Hawk. We have a friend that is a falconer and has been willing to share his bird with Adam and I a little. The first time I met her I got to hold, pet and feed her!! It was so exciting! I love birds (OK all animals) and it was fascinating to handle a wild predator like his hawk. I see them all over here in Lehi, they are so amazing.

Our friend, Brian, has the largest registered hawk in Utah. She's young and so tame, I love her! Here are some photos I just have to share... It's so awesome to be so close to these fantastic birds...

Brian invited us to go with him and a buddy one morning to watch the birds train. It was freezing cold but I didn't care one bit, I was warm with excitement! Click on the photos to read what they say.

Angelique, we were fascinated by your outing with the raptors. We've seen Gyrfalcons only in Alaska, but never a hybrid with a Northern Goshawk. Although Northern Goshawks are here in parts of California, there are lots more in all of Utah. Holding a Red Tail must have been exciting. We touched a recovering Golden Eagle in Alaska, over four times the weight of a Red Tail. It was a primitive feeling.

Love, Uncle Ben!
